Builds pre-clone repos, install dependencies, and run setup steps before an agent session begins. Cursor says the change enables 10x faster environment boot and about 3x faster time to first token, while also keeping the last good build active if a new build breaks.
This directly reduces friction for teams relying on remote coding agents for repeated tasks, CI-style debugging, or long-running work. It also lowers the cost of flaky setup scripts by separating environment prep from the actual coding session.
Teams using Cloud Agents should move more setup logic into the install command so it can be baked into Builds. After enabling the feature, they can monitor build history, inspect logs, and debug failed environment snapshots from the dashboard.
